In commemoration of its 23rd anniversary, the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong held various competitions aimed at introducing Indonesian traditional clothing and exploring PMI’s potential, Sunday (12/05/2019).
Located at the Sai Yin Pun Community Hall, the anniversary and commemoration of Kartini Day 2019 with the theme “Maheswari Putri Nusantara” was enlivened with a poco-poco group dance competition, an elegant kebaya fashion competition, an elegant batik fashion competition, and the 2019 Putri Kartini election.
The head of the Indonesian Consulate General’s Cultural Center, Sri Wahyuni, said that apart from being an annual event, the event they held was also a form of appreciation as well as to show talent in makeup and wearing traditional Indonesian clothes.
“This event is an annual event from the Cultural Studio, to appreciate and show talent and creativity in Indonesian traditional make-up and dress,” Sri Wahyuni said to Migran Pos, Monday (13/05/2019).
According to one of the participants who won the title of Putri Kartini 2019, Nentylin, the reason for participating in the competition was because they were proud to be an Indonesian woman and wanted to gain experience and wanted to set a good example for fellow Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Hong Kong.
“I want to add to the experience like other friends and as an Indonesian woman, I am very proud and want to set a good example to my fellow migrant workers and my friends in Hong Kong,” said Nentylin, Monday (13/05/2019) .
