In commemoration of world labor day, the National Alliance for Indonesia (I’m Indonesia) held an online discussion with the theme Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) during the Pandemic, Sunday (10/5/2020).

In the interactive discussion Aku Indonesia invited three speakers, namely: Indonesian Consul General in Hong Kong Ricky Suhendar, Indonesian Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah and Nurul Qoiriah from ASEAN-Australia counter Trafficking.

The discussion which lasted for almost three hours via the zoom application was attended by dozens of participants from representatives of the PMI organization in Hong Kong and migrant worker activists.

Michael Cheng as the coordinator of Aku Indonesia hopes that holding this discussion can be a consideration for the government to make regulations that protect the interests of Migrant Domestic Workers.

“We hope that what our friends conveyed will be taken into consideration and improvement in drafting government regulations to be more serious in providing protection to PMI,” said Michael, Monday (11/5/2020).

Michael also revealed that the purpose of the discussion was to solve the problems experienced by Migrant Domestic Workers in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aku Indonesia itself is a PMI alliance in Hong Kong which was formed in 2017 with a mission to spread the values ​​of tolerance, love for the homeland and justice in overseas lands.
