Recognizing the importance of PMI (Indonesian Migrant Workers) knowing about the goods tax at the airport, the Association of Indonesian Muslim Migrants in Hong Kong (GAMMI HK) celebrated its anniversary by holding a counseling event on customs and excise, Sunday (24/3/2019).
“This counseling is very important, because PMI friends do not understand about customs and excise issues and there are still many who are victims of brokers,” said Romlah Rosidah, head of GAMMI Hong Kong to Migran Pos, Monday (25/03/2019).
Present as a resource person in the counseling event, the Consul of Customs and Excise of the Indonesian Consulate General HK Imik Eko Putro.
According to Imik, not many PMIs know about the types of goods and the maximum value that can be brought home without paying taxes. The types of goods that can be carried without the tax burden are personal items or the needs of a person whose total price of goods is a maximum of US $ 500 or around seven million rupiah.
“Goods that someone brings on a trip with a limit of US$500 per person will get free entry facilities,” said Imik to the counseling participants, Sunday (24/03/2019).
In addition to explaining about customs and excise, Imik also explained how to manage finances well, know how drug syndicates work and how to avoid them, so that PMI is not easily trapped by drug distribution networks between countries.
Events that carry the theme; “Moslem migrant women, raise awareness, strengthen unity, go forward and fight with GAMMI” was not only held to celebrate the 13th anniversary of GAMMI-HK, it was also held to commemorate Isra Mi’raj 1440 H.
