25 Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Hong Kong who are students of the Open University – Pokjar HK held a ceremony to hand over their undergraduate diplomas at the BNI building, 16 Harcourt Rd, Central, because they had completed distance learning for 8 semesters or more, Sunday (25/25). 4/2021).

Dozens of PMIs who attended the graduation said they were very happy, because they had completed their studies at university while continuing to work as migrant domestic workers (PRT) with all their limitations to help the family economy.

“When I went to Hong Kong to work to improve the future, I thought having money saved in the bank was enough. But after seeing many other PMI friends who already had enough money saved and decided to return to Indonesia but had only been experiencing financial difficulties for a few months, it made me think again, that just having money savings was not enough. That’s why I enrolled at the Open University to sharpen my skills, and turn it into a source of income when I’m quite capable and try to develop it so that it can be useful for others,” said Reni, one of the graduation participants.

The event was also attended by the Chancellor of the Open University for the period 2021-2025 Prof Drs Ojat Darojat MBus PhD, Indonesian Consul General for Hong Kong Ricky Suhendar, Education Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing Yaya Sutarya. They advised PMI wherever they work, to keep learning and not be tired to realize their dreams, even though they are no longer young.
