One aspect of the culture of adherents of Islam in Indonesia, is that their Islamic practice is integrated with local wisdom in their area. Including the tradition of welcoming the month of Ramadan.

The following Migran Pos tries to summarize some of the traditions that are usually carried out before the month of Ramadan

Nyadaran / Nyekar: It is a common tradition in some areas of Java Island, where the living family visits the graves of deceased relatives, to clean the graves, pray and some throw flowers.

Nyekar Tradition. Photo: PMII Pacitan/Via Google

Muploadan: It is a tradition of the Sundanese Islamic community. The form of implementation varies, generally gathering with family and relatives, eating together, forgiving each other and praying together. In addition, there are also those who visit tourist attractions with their family, make pilgrimages to their parents or religious leaders.

Mungganan tradition. Photo: Istimewa/Nusantaranews

Padusan: It is a tradition that is usually carried out by the people of Boyolali and some areas in Java to purify themselves, by bathing or soaking in the sea, or water sources that are considered sacred.

Padusan Tradition. Photo: Special/Google

Nyorog : It is a tradition of the Betawi people and some other regions, this tradition is in the form of distributing gifts such as raw food, sugar, coffee, and the like to relatives. Sometimes the gift is in the form of cooked food, with some special foods and put in a basket.

The Nyorog tradition of the Betawi community. Photo: Kulo’s blog

Malamang: It is the ancestral tradition of the people of West Sumatra carried out by mothers, who in groups make lamang made of glutinous rice mixed with coconut milk, then cooked in a bamboo sleeve after previously being rolled with a banana leaf.

The Malamang tradition of the people of West Sumatra. Photo: KinciaKincia.com

Pilgrimage Kubro: is a tradition that is usually carried out by the people of Palembang, making pilgrimages to the tombs of ancestors and scholars in Tengkurep Crater where the ancestors and scholars are buried.

The Kubro Pilgrimage Tradition in Palembang. Photo: Compass Traveler

Those are some traditions that are usually missed when approaching Ramadan. As Messiah, an Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) from Madiun, who has been working in Hong Kong since 2000, the things he miss the most are Nyekar and Nyorog.

The post The Tradition of Welcoming Ramadhan in Kampung Halaman first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Longing is a feeling that all nomads must feel
every time without knowing a pause. In addition to the deepest longing for family in an all-digital era, it can be cured by using the internet without having to wait long. Of course, there is a longing for one’s hometown, living environment as well as for the food that is usually enjoyed before going abroad.

Now for friends in Hong Kong who miss the delicious Indonesian food that is not easily forgotten, we can also get these foods with culinary tours on our holidays.

Here are some places for culinary Indonesian food in Hong Kong.

Tsuen wan’s Special Stall

“I have been a customer at this shop for seven years and my favorite is fish fried rice, the taste is great,” said one visitor.

For fried rice lovers, you can visit Warung Istimewa which is located at G/F Winning Heights 5 Fwah Street, Lo Tak Court, Tsuen Wan.

“Here, the Lombok food is famous for its fried rice,” said the shop owner who is usually called Om Istimewa.

Terasi Fried Rice at Warung Special, Tsuen Wan. Photo: Rita Damayanti

In addition to the mainstay menu of Lombok fried rice, Warung Istimewa also provides yellow rice cone with white rice cone at affordable prices. Many Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) order at this stall for birthday celebrations and for Thanksgiving activities.

“It’s cheap for 1 person, HK$88, but we usually have 10 people, so we can joint venture with friends,” said Om Istimewa.

Warung Indonesia Berkah

This one restaurant provides a mainstay menu of pecel rice. For friends who want to treat their homesickness for food made from peanuts, they can come to Price Edward.

Besides pecel rice, there are also foods that are very close to the characteristics of the Indonesian people, namely meatballs, soto, rawon and mixed rice. To satisfy the customers of this shop, they deliberately make their own meatball dough.

“I like the meatballs, it’s delicious and fits my taste,” said Lina, PMI from Ngawi.

The full address for Warung Berkah Indonesia is at 1/C Fa Yuen Tower, 216-218 Fa Yuen Street, Mong Kok.

According to the shop owner, PMI’s favorite food at his stall is chicken soup and rawon.

“The best-selling and most liked are chicken soup and rawon. Meatballs are number 2,” said the shop owner, who is usually called Koko.

Apart from the ones mentioned above, there are many other Indonesian restaurants in Hong Kong, especially the Causeway Bay area. There are Pandan Leaf restaurants, Warung Malang and the recently opened Geprek Bensu which serves food made from chicken and of course there is a spicy chili sauce that is suitable for spicy lovers.

For those who like Padang specialties, there is a Padang restaurant located at G/F 177-178 King’s Road North Point.

Each restaurant has its own characteristics with prices between $100-$200. But for those whose names are longing cures, what is more important than the price is the enjoyment of the food.

Meanwhile, for those who miss Indonesian snacks and market snacks such as fried tempeh, stuffed tofu, lemper, bakwan vegetables, cakes, you can get them at Warung Chandra which is located near the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) Hong Kong building and several other market snacks. Usually these snacks and market snacks are served warm and easily available at the front or inside Indonesian stalls.

The post Traces of Missing Indonesian Culinary in Hong Kong first appeared on Postal Migrant.

The post The Secret Behind the Different Colors of MTR Stations in Hong Kong first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Mong Kok is red, Admiralty is bright blue, and no one passes Choi Hung MTR station without seeing the rainbow-colored pillars on the platform. Why does each MTR station in Hong Kong have a different color, and what does it mean?

When you look at the colorful stations, you might think the brightly colored tiled walls of the Hong Kong mass transit rail system are just to reflect that this city of Bauhinia is full of color and energy. But apparently that’s not the only reason, there is a secret behind the choice of contrasting colors for each station.

First, different and chosen colors have to do with balance. Being deep underground, there are no windows, everything will look completely dark and gloomy. While color is associated with beauty and brightness, and in the depths of the MTR station, the color chosen is expected to give each station its own form of sunshine and beauty.

Second, station color has a function to help distinguish stations from one another, and to give each station its own identity.

The main reason bright colors were adopted when the first line of the MTR opened in the 1970s was that color differentiation was considered useful for designers to give identity to stations, because underground which of course, unlike when traveling by bus or car above ground, they unable to see surrounding landmarks.

Third, the colors of the stations are differentiated to make them easier to find and remember by illiterate people. Historically, in the 1970s, the illiteracy rate in Hong Kong was still high because it was only in 1971 that Hong Kong launched a free compulsory education program. So most Hong Kong residents still can’t read the Chinese alphabet and letters.

Fourth, color is useful for marking more important stations. The MTR intentionally uses a distinct and striking red range like at Tsuen Wan, Mong Kok or Central stations. This is so that passengers know that they are at the interchange station or the last station.

While developing the color palette, MTR has also made sure not to use the same color in subsequent stations. For example, blue is used at Mei Foo station because it contrasts sharply with the red stations of Lai King and Lai Chi Kok.

Fifth, so that the station is easily recognizable. If you are not a Hong Kong resident and can’t read English or Chinese well, how can you identify the station? Yup! By marking and recognizing station colors!

Some of the station colors are also selected to match the Chinese name the station uses. For example, the rainbow colors at Choi Hung station are a vivid example of a literal translation from Cantonese, as “choi hung” means rainbow. Yellow is used at Wong Tai Sin station because the word “wong” means yellow. Lai Chi Kok Station is red because “lai chi” means lychee fruit. Prince Edward Station is purple because the color is usually associated with royalty or nobility in western culture.

In addition to the five things above, the MTR architects creatively used various color determination methods to translate station names. For example Diamond Hill Station is mostly black, but a beautifully crafted mosaic using some white bricks. The purpose of the design is to try to produce the same sparkling effect as a diamond or diamond from a different angle.

The meaning of the place and the environment around the station is also considered in the use of color. For example, Whampoa Station is blue because it is closer to the water area. Ho Man Tin Station is green because it is part of the hills that have trees.

Given that each station has a different coloration, you may wonder why the Airport Express Line is grayed out. It all has to do with Norman Foster, the architect who designed the airport, and the HSBC building in Central who doesn’t like the use of color. The renowned architect often refers to “Foster gray” which is his favorite color and is used for most of his designs.

So the MTR architects decided to take advantage of a different coloration during the airport’s expansion from Lantau to Hong Kong. That’s why Airport Express, Kowloon and Hong Kong stations are the same gray, so that those who are or are about to travel feel that they are close to the airport.

In its development, the Airport Express Line became cooler in its grayness due to the introduction of the artwork. The architects integrated the art in the station by bringing together color and functionality.

Take, for example, artist Gaylord Chan’s rocket art in the space between Hong Kong and Central stations. The work is about the movement of people, and people passing quickly, reflecting the transit area where the station is where the art is located.

It is said that all the artwork at the MTR station is curated because it’s not just about choosing a good picture, but also making sure that the artwork that is posted can resonate with passers-by.

As for the newer stations, the MTR began to integrate art and color in a much more sophisticated and contemporary way.

For stations in Ocean Park, for example, a different color blue is used because it represents an amusement park. There is also an art sculpture that resembles the movement of a school of fish. There is two symbolism in this: symbolizing the sea, and the creatures in Ocean Park, but also functional, because by following the movements of the fish, people will be able to find an exit or station platform.

So what about Post Migrants? Have you ever thought that the MTR is more than just a mode of transportation but also a functional art exhibition space that has meaningful colors that are all integrated in a cool way?

The post The Secret Behind the Different Colors of MTR Stations in Hong Kong first appeared on Postal Migrant.

After Pre-Employment, the Government will issue a new program, namely Job Loss Guarantee (JKP). The program which is claimed to be able to protect workers who are victims of Termination of Employment (PHK), including BPJS Employment regulated in the Omnibuslaw Law on Job Creation, is detrimental to workers, Thursday (15/10/2020).

“If there are layoffs, there are benefits in the form of increasing competence or up-skilling, as well as being given access to new jobs,” said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto as quoted by CNN.com.

JKP is claimed to have 3 benefits in the form of cash, access to job market information, and job training. For the initial stage, JKP’s funding source comes from the government’s pocket. Furthermore, the source of JKP contributions will rely on the recomposition of contributions from the social security program and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s operational funds.

According to the BPJS Watch Advocacy Coordinator, Timboel Siregar, the government’s new program has no clarity.

“I said that JKP is not clear where the contributions will come from, while the businessmen are adamant that they do not want to increase their contributions, but regarding the recomposition, please. So, entrepreneurs only re-park, they are taken from next door and put into JKP, they only change the parking lot,” explained Timboel Siregar.

He also said at a glance that JKP did provide a myriad of benefits for the victims of layoffs. However, in fact JKP actually comes from workers and laborers and is intended for workers and workers themselves. Some previous funding programs, for example, came from participants’ own contributions.

The government’s portion, as stated in the Job Creation Act, is not much, only the initial capital.

“So it’s the workers who are harmed, this JKP is made by the workers for the workers,” he told CNNIndonesia.com, Tuesday (13/10/20).

BPJS Employment itself currently runs 4 social security programs, namely, Work Accident Insurance (JKK), death insurance (JKM), old age insurance (JHT), and pension insurance (JP). And the amount of each contribution is:

JKK, in the range of 0.24 percent-1.74 percent of salary depending on work risk.

JKM equals 0.3 percent of salary. Both fees are paid by the entrepreneur.

JHT is 5.7 percent of salary of which 3.7 percent is borne by employers and 2 percent from workers.

JP, employers pay 2 percent and workers 1 percent, so the total contribution is 3 percent of salary.

So, in total employers pay 10.24 percent to 11.74 percent to pay for social security per month. While JKP, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan will not collect new contributions, but will recompose contributions from the 4 programs.

The post The New BPJS Employment Program in the Omnibuslaw Disadvantages Workers first appeared on Postal Migrant.

The Department of Environmental Hygiene and Food will apply a new flushing technology to public toilets in Hong Kong. The project will cost HK$600 million to upgrade 240 public toilets, which will be carried out over 5 years.

In a parliamentary meeting Thursday (11/4/2019) the director of the department said this new innovation can make new toilets stain and odor free, and ensure the toilet floor is dry and clean.

“The public toilets in Sai Yee Street, Mong Kok will use ozone to flush water for sanitation hygiene and odor removal. At The Peak and Tsuen Wan there will be several toilets that will use oxygen to remove odors, so we will use technology to decompose odor particles into carbon dioxide and water,” explained Vivian Lau to RTHK, Thursday (11/4/2019).

To ensure that the toilet floor is dry, a hand dryer will be installed next to the sink to prevent people from walking with wet hands on the toilet.

So far, public toilets in Hong Kong are often protested because they are dirty, smelly and not well maintained.

The post Public Toilets in Hong Kong Will Use New Technology first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Through its official website, the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) said on Saturday (17/10) it had carried out raids on illegal shelters for Prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers (CPMI), in three locations that were used as shelter houses for 25 CPMIs who would be dispatched to the country. destination Taiwan and Poland, Monday (19/10/2020).

According to the Head of BP2MI Benny Rhamdani, the locations for the non-procedural CPMI shelters are located in Roro Cantik Housing, Plumbon, Karangasem Village and Cheeseden Housing in the Plumbon area, Cirebon Regency, West Java. Benny explained, BP2MI received a report of illegal shelter from an NGO, the Indonesian Migrant Workers Union (SBMI) which said there were several PMI candidates who would be dispatched non-procedurally.

“The shelter we found is illegal, because individuals cannot shelter PMI candidates. We are concerned about shelters with very unworthy conditions, dirty and smelly, this is a serious concern of the government,” said Benny

From the results of the data collection carried out by government officials, the PMI candidates have been in the shelter for two months, some of them have even been waiting for departure for more than a year, and have always been promised that they will immediately depart for Taiwan and Poland.

“The point is, our arrival tonight is to prove that in the efforts to send PMI candidates to placement countries, there are always certain parties who simplify the process and make savings on costs that are obligations that must be incurred by the company but by taking advantage of the benefits. as much as possible from CPMI itself,” said Benny.

Based on information from the 25 CPMIs who were in the illegal shelters, they were asked on average a sum of money ranging from Rp. 45 million to Rp. 52 million, citing the costs and the process of departing to the destination country. According to BP2MI, his party has confiscated files that will be used as evidence and will be processed legally, because according to Benny, the actions of the owner of the illegal shelter violated the applicable laws.

From the results of the operation, BP2MI will bring six victims who are prospective illegal migrant workers and have been in the area for a long time. “We have brought six people who have been promised for a year that they will go abroad, we will develop their examination at the BP2MI office,” said Benny.

Benny said, whoever tries to commit the crime of trafficking in persons, whoever they are, whether they are the owners of capital or certain individuals who have power, BP2MI will never be afraid and will not stop the war against illegal PMI sending syndicates.

“BP2MI will be a nightmare for whoever they are, the State must not lose, the State is present and the law must work. The state is present, BP2MI provides protection for PMI as ordered by the President to protect PMI from head to toe,” said Benny

The post 25 CPMI Deceived by Agents Who Promised to Send Him to Taiwan and Poland first appeared on Postal Migrant.

The Wuhan Municipal Health Commission said in a statement on its website on Friday (11/13), that it had detected the presence of the new coronavirus on the packaging of a batch of Brazilian beef, as it ramped up testing of frozen foods this week as part of its national campaign Monday ( 16/11/2020).

As reported by Reuters, the Wuhan City Health Commission has found three positive samples on the outer packaging of frozen boneless beef from Brazil. The beef entered China via the Qingdao port on August 7 and reached Wuhan on August 17, where the meat products have remained in cold storage facilities until now.

According to the Commission, the registration code for beef shipment exporters is 2015, and refers to a factory owned by Marfrig Global Foods SA in Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso state. So far Marfrig has declined to comment. The Brazilian government itself did not immediately comment on the status of the factory’s license to sell beef to China.

According to the commerce ministry’s website, the Várzea Grande Marfrig facility had previously been suspended by China due to coronavirus concerns. The ban has been in effect since September 22 and was lifted on October 23. More than 100 staff at the Wuhan facility have undergone tests and 200 environmental samples have been taken.

After taking drastic measures to control the spread of the virus in society this year, China at the end of last June began testing imported food. In September, they only found 22 positive samples out of nearly 3 million, but after some workers at the port were recently found to be infected with the virus, they stepped up testing and disinfection of food imports from this week.

Chinese authorities also found the coronavirus on packaging for Argentine beef this week, and another sample of imported beef was found positive in Shandong, the province’s representative said on Friday. China is the world’s biggest buyer of beef and Brazil and Argentina are the biggest suppliers.

The post Wuhan Finds Corona Virus in Brazilian Beef first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) have been chosen by the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) as Tourism Ambassadors,

The post PMI Chosen as Indonesian Tourism Ambassador first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) have been chosen by the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) as Tourism Ambassadors, because they are considered not only to bring economic remittances in the form of foreign exchange, but also represent the face of Indonesia abroad, Friday (11/20/2020). ).

“These migrant workers carry the spirit of red and white in their chests, live Pancasila in their hearts, and become a mirror of Indonesian culture. So they deserve to be awarded the title of Tourism Ambassador for Indonesia, in marketing and promoting Indonesia’s tourism and creative economy,” said Benny in a series of Migrant Day 2020 activities at the UPT BP2MI office in Jakarta, Monday (18/11).

According to Benny, if the 3.7 million PMI recorded by the Government (or 9 million PMI according to the World Bank including non-procedural ones) can become Tourism Ambassadors, then that is the potential number of foreign tourists that PMI can bring to Indonesia. For that reason, his party hopes to provide PMI with insights into Indonesian tourism which can later be introduced to their employers.

“There is no doubt that PMI is able to incorporate Indonesian culture into daily interactions with employers. There is no doubt that PMI is able to carry out the mission of introducing Indonesian culture, and of course promoting Indonesian tourism,” explained Benny.

To realize this, BP2MI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in the context of Developing Tourism and Economic Potential of Indonesian Migrant Workers and Their Families.

While giving his speech, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Wishnutama, hoped that with this memorandum of understanding apart from being a foreign exchange hero, PMI could also become a hero for Indonesian tourism. “As a tourism ambassador, PMI will represent Indonesia abroad and introduce Indonesia to the world,” he added.

In addition, this collaboration is also expected to make it easier for returning PMIs to develop their businesses in the tourism and creative economy sectors through coordination and synchronization of planning related to access to capital.

“Besides economic remittances, PMI also brings social remittances, such as skills, ideas, and practices that migrant workers learn abroad and then bring to their areas of origin to build communities in the areas where they live. This social development is the social impact of overseas migration,” said Benny.

When Benny had a dialogue with IETO Taiwan regarding the excellent program for placing PMI abroad or the Special Placement Program to Taiwan (SP2), and company representatives and PMIs placed through the SP2T scheme, IETO Taiwan said the number of PMIs that had been placed through the SP2T scheme until October 2020 was as much as 38 people who were placed in the company Shing Kong Textile and Ho Yu Textile.

“The whole SP2T process is very easy and fast, even when I was in Taiwan, the company provided adequate facilities and I felt appreciated. With that, I am grateful for the opportunity to experience working with a zero cost scheme,” said Nita Mutmainah virtually, PMI who went to Taiwan with SP2T.

Benny also advised PMIs residing in countries of placement to maintain the good name of Indonesia. “Dignity Indonesia is represented by PMI. The good or bad of Indonesia is assessed through the PMI. For that, continue to talk about all the good things about Indonesia. You are Indonesian Tourism Ambassadors,” said Benny.

The post PMI Chosen as Indonesian Tourism Ambassador first appeared on Postal Migrant.

The Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) noted that the number of migrant workers who departed illegally or departed through unofficial labor dispatch syndicates reached 5.3 million people, Saturday (21/11/2021).

Based on survey results from the World Bank in collaboration with the Central Statistics Agency and the World Bank, there are 9 million Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) spread across 150 countries. While the data owned by BP2MI is only 3.7 million PMIs who work abroad. This means that there are 5.3 million undocumented migrant workers.

While attending the Migrant Day event at the BM2MI Technical Implementation Unit Office in the Serang area, Banten, Benny Ramdhani as the head of BP2MI said workers who departed via the dark lane were automatically not registered by the state.

“Workers who leave through automatic syndicates cannot be registered by the state,” said Benny, quoted from IDNTimes, Thursday (11/19/2020).

Benny also admitted that it was difficult for the state to provide protection because they did not have the identity of the migrant workers.

To combat the syndicate itself, BP2MI has formed a task force to eradicate illegal shipments of Indonesian Migrant Workers and educate, socialize, and train the public regarding the dangers of syndicates sending illegal migrant workers.

The post Illegal Migrant Workers From Indonesia Abroad Reaches 5.3 Million first appeared on Postal Migrant.
