An Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI) identified as Yalatifu from Gunungpati, Semarang Regency, Central Java became a victim of fraud by a PMI agent sponsor who was promised to work in Abu Dhabi, but was later held captive to be taken to Iraq with PMI victims from West Java, Monday (03/03). /2/2020).

Yalatifu was detained for one month by agents in Erbil, Iraq, after being dispatched by his sponsor (PT Bogor), from Soekarno Hatta Airport to Doha then Erbil on August 28, 2019. After realizing that he was a victim of fraud, Yalatifu tried his best to be able to report what happened to the Indonesian Embassy in Baghdad.

As stated by the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), after receiving the victim’s report, his party, in coordination with the Indonesian Embassy in Baghdad, had escorted Yalatifu to Soekarno Hatta Airport on Thursday, January 23, 2020.

Because he had been held captive, BP2MI took Yalatifu to the Trauma Center Protection House (RPTC) with the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos), who had previously been taken to Baresktim for examination.

“Thursday, January 30, 2020, BP2MI has facilitated the repatriation of PMI Yalatifu to his hometown in Semarang Regency, Central Java. PMI Yalatifu was repatriated by train from Jakarta to Semarang accompanied by two officers from BP2MI and returned to his home area,” said BP2MI spokesman Joko Purwanto in Jakarta, Thursday (1/30/2020) quoted by Migran Pos.
