Organizers of the Hong Kong book fair, which canceled the annual event in July due to the third wave of the coronavirus, announced that the event would be held again from December 16 to 22 at the Convention and Exhibition Center, Wan Chai, Tuesday (24/8/). 2020).

The Trade Development Council (TDC) said a survey of exhibitors showed that more than half of respondents hoped the book fair could still be held before 2020 ends, if the epidemic situation allows.

TDC also said it would conduct a re-assessment in November of the Covid-19 development situation in the city, before continuing on whether the exhibition will continue. The final decision will be made on December 9, a week before the scheduled opening of the book fair.

The Hong Kong Sports and Entertainment Fair has also been scheduled to open at the same time in December. Even so, TDC said, public safety remains its top priority. It will notify all stakeholders, and exhibitors of any changes to give them sufficient time to get ready.

The governments have each allocated up to HK$100,000 to fund local exhibitors to take part in this yearly book fair, as subsidies still remain in place for events in December.

“For book lovers who yearn for a good read, now they have something to look forward to,” RTHK wrote in its news release.
