The head of the International Migrants Alliance, Eni Lestari, admitted that she was disappointed with the government’s attitude regarding the elimination of the placement fee for Migrant Domestic Workers (PRT) that was charged to employers, because these costs should have been charged to the government, Wednesday (30/9/2020).

To Pos Migrants, Eni Lestari said, there are more important things that must be done regarding placement costs, namely providing a clear scheme for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) who are demanding overcharging (excess costs) to PJTKI.

“I myself am disappointed that the government is more busy reducing costs, but on the other hand it doesn’t convince PMI victims of excessive costs to be able to demand their money back,” said Eni, Tuesday (29/9/2020).

Eni also explained that the placement fee should be borne by the government, not the employer. Because this will make the employer panic and unhappy. This will also affect the attitude of employers towards their domestic workers.

On the other hand, employers are currently in a difficult position due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As it is known that the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) has issued Regulation No. 9 of 2020 concerning Exemption of the Fee for the Placement of Indonesian Migrant Workers.

With the ratification of the regulation, PMI will be free from the burden of placement fees, including: departure and return ticket fees, legalization of work agreements, work competency certificates, company services, passport replacement, police record certificates, PMI social security, and medical and psychological examination fees. in the country.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong government, in this case the Hong Kong Ministry of Manpower, has held a meeting with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) to inquire about the increase in the placement fee and the details of what costs must be borne by prospective employers in Hong Kong.
