Temperatures dropped below freezing to 0.9 degrees in parts of the New Territories yesterday (13/1) causing farmers to suffer losses due to large-scale damage to their crops, Thursday (14/1/2021).

According to the Hong Kong Observatory, the temperature drop was the lowest in 33 years. HKO calls this phenomenon “radiative cooling”, and predicts temperatures will warmer in the next few days before reversing early next week.

HKO predicts the winter monsoon will moderate slightly in the next few days, bringing warmer weather ranging from 12 to 20 degrees from Thursday to Saturday, but still chilly mornings in the hinterland.

While another winter monsoon wave will affect Hong Kong early next week, with the weather turning cold again, along with a little rain in the middle and end of next week.
