Although Macau is adjacent to Hong Kong and administratively both countries are both part of China, the two countries have different views. Hong Kong was a former British colony while Macau was once colonized by the Portuguese.

Here are some of the uniqueness that appears in Macau;

° The language used in public facilities is Portuguese and Chinese

Portuguese and Chinese writings dominate in various places such as road signs, maps, shop names, even all information is generally written in Portuguese first. It is very important for anyone who wants to visit Macau to know the route of the destination and know the transportation in advance.

Uniquely, although public facilities are written in Portuguese and written in Chinese, if we listen carefully to the conversations of the majority of the population when in public places, they will communicate in Cantonese and Mandarin. The official languages in Macau are Cantonese and Portuguese.

It is estimated that currently only 3% speak Portuguese. Portuguese is still used for law and journalism. Macau has Portuguese press, including: print media, TV and radio.

The street names in Macau are marked in blue and white, which is a symbol of the Portuguese influence that still exists today.

° Easy to find Portuguese heritage buildings

Macau is a territory that was part of the Portuguese colony (1557 – 20 December 1999). No wonder the Portuguese-style buildings dominate various places in Macau.

Under Portuguese rule for more than 400 years, the cities of Macau have finally become a unique city that is the result of a fusion of eastern and western cultures.

In Macau, we will find many neo-classical buildings in pastel colors that were built during the colonial period. Most of these buildings are part of Macau’s history, which became a “UNESCO World Heritage” in 2005.

“Wavy Paving” or paving that is wavy is unique which was installed in the early 1990s, this paving originally came from fragments of pottery pieces from sailors’ ships.

° There are “zebra crosses” and motorbikes everywhere

The city layout in Macau has a lot of alleys or crossroads, so there are lots of zebra-crosses on every street.

If we visit Macau, we will see the presence of many motorbikes along the road. At least 2/3 of the locals in Macau travel around the city by motorbike or bicycle.

Despite the heavy traffic and the possibility that pedestrians can easily be hit by oncoming vehicles, most car or motorcycle drivers drive cautiously and allow us to cross the road first. Wherever we go, we will see hundreds of motorbikes parked on street corners making this place very cool.

° Clotheslines are often seen outside the window of the house.

Whether big or small the size of the house in Macau, people tend to prefer to dry clothes outside the windows of their respective homes. This view adds to the value of harmony between the existing housing.

° Food Variety

The food in Macau is a mixture of Chinese and Portuguese spices. Food like “bacalao” is very easy to find. One of its famous dishes, Portuguese Egg Tarts, based on the Portuguese tradition of “pastel de nata”, was immediately adopted as a specialty in Macau.

° The Las Vegas of the East
Macau is also known as the Las Vegas of Asia, and is one of the cities in China that legalizes casinos. This is because in 1844, the Portuguese had legalized gambling and casinos in Macau, then Macau was given the status of a special administrative region after the handbook from the Portuguese was given to China in 1999. This meant that gambling and casinos were allowed to exist.

The post Some Unique Sights in Macau first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Centro de Convencoes e Entretenimento da Torre de Macau (Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Centre), or often referred to as Macau Tower is located in Se’, Macau. It has a height of 338m (1,109 ft). This building began construction in 1988 and was completed in 2001 by an Architect named Gordon Moller, opened to the public on December 19, 2001, at a cost of approximately 100 million USD.

This tower is part of the “World Federation of Great Towers”, which apart from being used for observation and entertainment, the Tower is also used for telecommunications and broadcasting facilities.

As an icon of Macau, Macau Tower is open to anyone including many leaders from various countries and public figures who have visited since December 2001. No wonder, this place is deliberately designed for national or international business and for trade events.

Before getting to know what challenges exist in Macau Tower, it’s good to know a little story about AJ Hackett, where he is the initiator of the existence of “Tower Adventure” in Macau Tower.

AJ Hackett
From the ancient Pentecostal island of Vanuatu the concept of Bungy was formed. The existence of young boys still trying their courage and jumping from the 30m high handcrafted structures that were attached was nothing more than vines at their feet.

In the early 1980s AJ Hackett and his friends saw this recording and decided to develop a modern version. After a very extreme trial and experimental jump in 1986, AJ launched Bungy to the world by illegally jumping from the Eiffel Tower. This radical leap was able to bring media attention from around the world to AJ and Bungy’s activities.

AJ Hackett modernized and commercialized Bungy jumping, and has a proven safety record of facilitating over 4 million Bungy jumps with zero/no fatalities. Since the summer of 2002, AJ Hackett has designed several unique challenges for Macau Tower, including “The Guinness World Record Bungy jump” and SkyJump, SkyWalk and Tower Climb. All of these activities have helped bring great fun and excitement to locals and tourists alike, offering them an alternative form of entertainment that Macau has to offer. Adventure seekers from all over the world visit Macau Tower every year and try this extreme challenge.

The company AJ Hackett group has now grown in six different countries, namely; Australia, France, Macau, New Zealand, Russia and Singapore.

The elevator to get to the observation decks only takes 60 seconds. Stunning 360° views can be seen from the Observation Lounge on the 58th floor, visitors can enjoy while enjoying coffee at “Cafe on 4”, while the Adventure Deck is on the 61st floor.

Di Observation Decks terdapat Observation Lounge, Adventure Deck, VIP Sky-high, Telescope cards. Tower Adventure meliputi: Bungy Jump, Sky Jump, Sky Walk, Tower Climb, dan Merchandise. Untuk entertainment & shopping meliputi bioskop, Macau creations, mocha, Toy’s’us, ISA dan happy corner @Macau Tower.

Tower Adventure
° Tower Climb: Macau Tower is the only Tower in the world where the top of the mast can be climbed. This trip takes about 2 hours and is not for the faint hearted.

° SkyJump : SkyJump can only be found in three locations in the world, and this is the only one in Asia. From the edge of a height of 233 meters, the jumper can fly all the way to the landing zone at ground level. The average Sky Jump is controlled for 17 seconds at a speed of 75km/h. Single and Tandem jumps available. There must be written parental consent for children under 18 years of age.

° Sky Walk : this is an opportunity for anyone and everyone to step out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves. It is a great activity to do with friends and family and for people of all ages, including children. Walk on the outer edge of the Macau Tower 233 meters above the city skyline where the aisle is only 1.8 meters wide. Those who can participate are a maximum weight of 140 kg, and only children over three years old are allowed to join the Skywalk.

° Bungy : AJ Hackett Macau Tower Bungy Jump is 233m / 764ft, making this jump the Guinness World Record for the world’s Highest Commercial Bungy Jump. To make this leap from the Macau Tower a reality, a specially designed bungy cable, guide cable and recovery system had to be developed. AJ and his team pioneered the new design and testing of all equipment and thus invented what his organization now calls the 2nd generation bungy cable. This is a spherical cable that is larger at the top than the bottom and allows the jumper’s weight to be spread evenly over the entire length of the cable when jumping from such a height.

“Designing this new bungy cord is a huge step forward for us. Now it will allow us to jump off any building or structure in the world” said Founder AJ Hackett.

The jumper jumps from a platform 233m above the ground and experiences the ultimate free fall experience before decelerating 30 meters off the ground and getting back up. The guide cable system ensures you don’t make contact with the tower and allows bungy jumps to occur in almost any weather condition. Night Bungy is also available from 6pm in winter and 7:30pm in summer.

° Movies : Macau Largest 3D Movie Theater
There is a large screen. The large ultra high definition screen comes from the latest Sony SXRD K4 projection system.
2D price: MOP 70 and 3D price: MOP 110.

Hours of Operation
September – June Monday – Thursday11:00 – 7:30
Friday 11:00– 21:00
Saturday– Sunday11:00 – 21:00

The post Travel to Macau Tower first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Through media broadcasts, LCSD also appealed to the public to maintain cleanliness in order to keep the festival location neat, and not to burn candles or fly lanterns into the sky, because it can trigger fires if the fire touches flammable objects and can injure people.

Members of the public can call the LCSD hotline on 2414 5555 to report any burning of candles or when they see lanterns being flown into the sky, or other irregularities found at the festival site.

LCSD added that during the festival, the public is also not allowed to take a bath or take any action that might harm or damage and pollute the beach area. Anyone who violates the warning and is found guilty will be subject to a maximum fine of HKD 2,000 and 14 days in prison.

Offenses such as littering will result in a fine and a fine of HKD 1,500, while those who burn candles, throw objects at trees or fly sky lanterns can be prosecuted and face trial.

The following is a list of festival locations whose visit times are extended:
