To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the MacLehose Trail, the Hong Kong Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation (AFCD) will be holding a hiking challenge called Complete Walk on MacLehose Trail 2019 from September 1 to November 30, Friday (30/8/2019).
In a media release, an AFCD spokesperson said, “The 2019 Complete Walk on MacLehose Trail is the culmination of a series of celebratory events, to encourage members of the public to visit the MacLehose Trail and enjoy the stunning views of the countryside. The AFCD will schedule this climbing challenge from September 1 to November 30.”
Hiking participants can choose to complete the MacLehose Trail according to each participant’s physical strength, experience, and route preferences. At each designated post there is a QR code, participants can record information on the path they have completed by scanning the code, and the organizer will give a prize when the participant successfully passes a predetermined number of paths.
Through its media broadcast, AFCD said, residents are welcome to join in to enjoy the fun of hiking together and enjoy Hong Kong’s beautiful natural scenery. MacLehose Trail is the first long-distance hiking trail in Hong Kong which opened on October 26, 1979, with a trail that runs from east to west through eight national parks, namely Sai Kung East, Sai Kung West, Ma On Shan, Lion Rock, Kam Shan, Shing Mun, Tai Mo Shan and Tai Lam.
As the most representative hiking trail in Hong Kong and once named one of the top 20 dream trails in the world by National Geographic magazine, the 100-kilometer MacLehose Trail is divided into 10 sections, each of which has beautiful natural views as historical relics. interesting, and diverse wild flora and fauna, with tracks that wind their way through coastlines, rugged mountains, valleys, and reservoirs to provide hikers with a great experience.
In addition to hiking challenges, AFCD will also host many other exciting celebratory events suitable for all ages, including MacLehose Trail’s 40th anniversary celebrations, public talks about the legendary MacLehose Trail, MacLehose Trail maintenance workshops, group camping and group tours.

AFCD also exclusively produces a series of short videos to showcase the beauty of the various sections of the MacLehose Trail, as well as show guests sharing their personal stories regarding the trail. Footage videos have been uploaded and can be watched on the City Parks Education Program Facebook page (www.facebook.com/pg/countryparkseducationprogammes), which will be updated with new videos from time to time.
