It’s invisible, but the smell and sound often make people around you noisy. Yes, that’s a fart. But did you know that fart sounds and smells vary widely? What’s the reason? Reported by Kompas, Friday (8/3/2019), this is the explanation.

Natural process

First, you need to realize that farting is a normal thing that everyone does. Farting itself is a sign given by the body that our digestive system is functioning properly.

However, not all farts are the same. Some have no sound but have a very strong stench, some have a very loud sound but no smell.

According to a gastroenterologist from the University of Michigan Medicine Gastroenterology Clinic, humans store an average of 1.5 liters of gas in their digestive tract each day.

In a day, humans can fart as much as 14 to 23 times and tend to be odorless.

The sound of farting

Farting itself is influenced by the food we eat. If we eat peas, cabbage, or jackfruit we will fart quickly. Because the food is rich in gas content.

Meanwhile, the sound of farts is influenced by the speed of gas pushing from the stomach to come out, as well as the size and shape of the anal canal. Just like we play the flute. The smaller and less open the flute hole it will produce a high and shrill tone.

Meanwhile, if we open all the holes of the flute, then the sound produced is low and large.

Likewise with farts. When we hold a fart, the anal canal will be forced to close so that gas will come out little by little. As a result, the fart will sound loud and loud.

In contrast, if we are in a relaxed state, the anus will open wide and make gas easier to escape. The resulting sound tends to be smaller and may not even be heard at all.

Apparently, the size of a person’s fart is influenced by the state of our anus. Most importantly, don’t like to hold your fart

The post Why Do Farts Sound Different? first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Longing is a feeling that all nomads must feel
every time without knowing a pause. In addition to the deepest longing for family in an all-digital era, it can be cured by using the internet without having to wait long. Of course, there is a longing for one’s hometown, living environment as well as for the food that is usually enjoyed before going abroad.

Now for friends in Hong Kong who miss the delicious Indonesian food that is not easily forgotten, we can also get these foods with culinary tours on our holidays.

Here are some places for culinary Indonesian food in Hong Kong.

Tsuen wan’s Special Stall

“I have been a customer at this shop for seven years and my favorite is fish fried rice, the taste is great,” said one visitor.

For fried rice lovers, you can visit Warung Istimewa which is located at G/F Winning Heights 5 Fwah Street, Lo Tak Court, Tsuen Wan.

“Here, the Lombok food is famous for its fried rice,” said the shop owner who is usually called Om Istimewa.

Terasi Fried Rice at Warung Special, Tsuen Wan. Photo: Rita Damayanti

Each restaurant has its own characteristics with prices between $100-$200. But for those whose names are longing cures, what is more important than the price is the enjoyment of the food.

Meanwhile, for those who miss Indonesian snacks and market snacks such as fried tempeh, stuffed tofu, lemper, bakwan vegetables, cakes, you can get them at Warung Chandra which is located near the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) Hong Kong building and several other market snacks. Usually these snacks and market snacks are served warm and easily available at the front or inside Indonesian stalls.

The post Traces of Missing Indonesian Culinary in Hong Kong first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Everyone has experienced hiccups, one of the most annoying and probably harmless things for most people.

Hiccups generally last for a few minutes and appear shortly after we eat in a hurry or swallow a drink too quickly.

According to WebMD, the mechanism for hiccups starts from the diaphragm, which is the muscle between the lungs and the stomach. When we breathe in or inhale, the diaphragm is pulled down allowing air to enter the lungs. When we exhale, the twin diaphragm relaxes so that air from the lungs exits through the nose and mouth.

But when we hiccup, the diaphragm goes into spasm and forces the larynx which contains the vocal cords to contract which in turn closes the vocal cords and creates the characteristic hiccup sound.

In addition to eating and drinking in a hurry, other things such as stress, nervousness, the effects of certain medications, sudden changes in air temperature, and swallowing air due to chewing gum or drinking soft drinks, can also trigger hiccups.

The traditional way to deal with hiccups and is quite effective is holding your breath or blowing air into a paper bag. When we do, CO2 will accumulate in the lungs and make the diaphragm calm again.

Tyler Cymet, principal of the medical school at the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, spent five years studying hiccups in 54 of his patients.

But he did not find an easy way to overcome the hiccups.

“I thought nothing was working, the hiccups suddenly appeared and stopped on their own,” he told the Guardian.

Launching IFL Science, Saturday (9/2/2019), if you hiccup in just a few minutes, it means it’s still normal. But if it’s been hours or even up to 48 hours, you should immediately consult a doctor. It’s possible that these include symptoms of a more serious problem such as meningitis, stroke, traumatic brain injury, or a tumor.

The post Do You Know the Reason for Hiccups? first appeared on Postal Migrant.

The Department of Environmental Hygiene and Food will apply a new flushing technology to public toilets in Hong Kong. The project will cost HK$600 million to upgrade 240 public toilets, which will be carried out over 5 years.

In a parliamentary meeting Thursday (11/4/2019) the director of the department said this new innovation can make new toilets stain and odor free, and ensure the toilet floor is dry and clean.

“The public toilets in Sai Yee Street, Mong Kok will use ozone to flush water for sanitation hygiene and odor removal. At The Peak and Tsuen Wan there will be several toilets that will use oxygen to remove odors, so we will use technology to decompose odor particles into carbon dioxide and water,” explained Vivian Lau to RTHK, Thursday (11/4/2019).

To ensure that the toilet floor is dry, a hand dryer will be installed next to the sink to prevent people from walking with wet hands on the toilet.

So far, public toilets in Hong Kong are often protested because they are dirty, smelly and not well maintained.

The post Public Toilets in Hong Kong Will Use New Technology first appeared on Postal Migrant.

The Labor Tribunal ruled that the employer must compensate Baby Jane Allas, a Filipino migrant worker, in the amount of HKD 30,000. Monday, (15/4/2019).

This amount includes medical expenses and compensation for one month notice, as it is known that Baby Jane was fired by her employer in February following a diagnosis a month earlier which stated that the migrant worker had stage three cervical cancer.

Not only that, the Tribunal also asked Baby Jane’s employer to re-employ her so that she can get access to treatment at the Hong Kong General Hospital. As previously reported by HKFP, Baby Jane’s former employer and lawyer have offered an amicable option. However, the victim considered the offer unfair.

Baby Jane’s employer, who did not attend the verdict today, is known to be a well-known public figure. Jamil Bushra is the former Chairman of the United Muslim Association of Hong Kong. This Pakistani national is also seen frequently taking selfies with Hong Kong officials and Chief Executive Carrie Lam.

The popularity of the Baby Jane case garnered public sympathy and attention, even the GoGetFunding page created by the employer of Baby Jane’s sister managed to collect donations of more than $400,000 last month.

The post Labor Tribunal Provides $30,000 Compensation on Case of Migrant Workers Suffering From Cancer first appeared on Postal Migrant.

The Hong Kong Consumer Foundation found bacterial counts that exceeded standardization limits on some kitchen tissue brands, Monday (15/4/2019).

The head of the research department and the testing committee, Professor Nora Tam Fung-Yee, explained that the number of bacteria in the 5 brands exceeded the Chinese standard. That is 200 colony-forming units per gram (cfu/g), with numbers ranging from 240 to 1,000 cfu/g.

The five brands include; First Choice Premium Multi-Purpose KitchenTowel with bacteria count up to 1,000 cfu/g. Followed by Select Kitchen Towel, Naxos Kitchen Towel, Bestbuy Kitchen Towel, and Freesia Kitchen Towel.

“Tissue paper is not an everyday product that is produced through an aseptic process, the level of cleanliness should be a concern for consumers,” Tam said as reported by the South China Morning Post.

“The number of bacteria that are too high can be harmful to health, because these bacteria can cause bacterial contamination of food. Those who have a low immune system should be more vigilant.” Tam added

With this finding, observers from the Hong Kong Consumer Foundation urge residents to be more careful in choosing and using kitchen towels, considering that this item is one of the important necessities in households in Hong Kong.

The Foundation also recommends that consumers choose products that have received certification from the Food Safety Agency. In addition, they also advised not to reuse the paper that has been used and throw it away.

This is to prevent the spread of bacteria. New kitchen tissue paper should be stored in a clean and dry place, while opened products should be kept away from sinks and kitchen counters where raw food is prepared.

For now, the Foundation has reported this discovery to the Customs Department for further action.

The post 5 Out of 15 Kitchen Tissue Brands in Hong Kong Found to Contain Bacteria first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Hong Kong’s supply of fresh beef and lamb has sold out and has become as scarce as pork since Tuesday (14/5/2019).

According to RTHK, the shortage was not only caused by the fact that their stock was sold out, but also related to the closure of the slaughterhouse due to a swine flu infection in Africa in a pig imported from China.

Friday’s discovery of the highly contagious virus prompted the culling of some 6,000 pigs and the temporary suspension of imports of live pigs. Initially a viral infection was detected in pigs at the Sheung Shui abattoir, which is now closed for quarantine measures.

This means local cattle, sheep and pigs cannot be slaughtered on site at this time. Dozens of beef stalls across Hong Kong reported that they no longer had fresh meat to sell to their customers.

The trade representative said it was too early to say how much loss Hong Kong butchers would have to bear.

Government officials said the Sheung Shui slaughterhouse is likely to reopen on Monday, after a thorough cleanup following the slaughter of thousands of pigs with electric shocks and wrapped in plastic before being taken to landfills.

“It’s really in the public interest that we have to close the slaughterhouse… therefore I hope everyone will be patient for the next few days,” said Sophia Chan, secretary of Hong Kong’s Food and Health Service, as quoted by RTHK.

Chan said officials were trying to find out why the private abattoir in Tsuen Wan had also closed following the discovery of swine flu. Chan hopes the Tsuen Wan slaughterhouse can start operating again soon, to minimize the impact on the local meat supply shortage.

The post Hong Kong’s Fresh Beef and Lamb Inventory Is Short first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Hong Kong health officials announced that they are investigating cases of hepatitis E spread through mice after three elderly men were diagnosed with the type of hepatitis E usually associated with mice, Tuesday (14/05/2019).

According to RTHK, a 74-year-old man from Tuen Mun died and the other two men, aged 67 and 81, were said to be in stable condition. None of them reported having contact with mice.

The hepatitis E strain, which is usually present in mice, was previously thought by scientists to be unable to affect humans, until two Hong Kong residents contracted it last year.

“Based on available epidemiological information, the source and route of infection cannot be determined. The investigation is ongoing,” said a spokesperson for the Center for Health Protection as quoted by RTHK, Tuesday (14/5/2019).

In September 2019, officials revealed that a 56-year-old liver transplant patient had been infected with the hepatitis E strain. It was suspected that he had contracted a rat that lived near a garbage room at Choi Wan Estate which was indeed a rat’s nest.

Medical experts believe the case is the first of its kind in the world because it was previously thought that hepatitis E could not pass from mice to humans.

The post One Died, Two Sick, Due to ‘Rat’ Hepatitis first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Infused water has now become part of the health trend in everyday life since it was popularized by a blogger and photographer from Portland named Amy Pogue. Not only abroad, this trend is getting more and more fans in Indonesia.

When it’s summer like in Hong Kong today, plus the erratic weather changes, our bodies will be more susceptible to various seasonal diseases that result in decreased immunity. Consuming lots of water will really help the body not to get dehydrated due to sweating a lot.

Infusion water is water or mineral water that is given pieces of fruit, vegetables or herbs that are allowed to stand for a few hours until the essence of the soaked material changes the taste of the water.

In addition to the materials used are easy to obtain, how to make it is also easy. So Migrant Post friends can make their own infusion water for daily consumption, so that the body is always in shape.

However, keep in mind that not all fruits or vegetables are good for making infused water. Try the fruit used has an acidic or neutral taste such as grapes, apples, star fruit, dragon fruit, lime, lemon, cucumber, orange, mango, strawberry. Do not forget to make sure the condition of the fruit must be fresh and optimally ripe, because many nutrients have not been fully formed as long as the fruit is not yet ripe.

You can also add spices such as mint leaves, ginger, cinnamon, lemongrass, rosemary and so on to add flavor to your taste.

It is important to pay attention to when choosing infusion water ingredients, try organic or local vegetables or fruits. If it is difficult to get organic ingredients and free of pesticide residues, you can first soak the ingredients in salt water before washing them thoroughly.

For half a liter of mineral water or cold ready-to-drink water or room temperature water, 10-15 thin pieces of fruit can be added. Then let stand 6-12 hours until the starch comes out and the infusion water is ready for consumption.

So that the body is always healthy and fit, of course, regulate drinking patterns such as drinking infusion water, it will be enough to provide good nutrients and minerals to increase the body’s resistance from attacks of various diseases.

Besides being easy, consuming infusion water certainly doesn’t require expensive costs or cheaper than when we have to buy medicine and check with the doctor.

Good luck all postal migrant friends, I hope you all are always given health.

The post Infused Water Repels Disease in Summer first appeared on Postal Migrant.

The Center for Health Protection (CHP) of the Ministry of Health on Friday (26/7/2019) reported a number of the latest cases of dengue fever (DF) and chikungunya fever (CF) and said 16 of them were imported from Indonesia.

Through media broadcasts, CHP appealed to the public to strictly maintain environmental hygiene, and to take mosquito control and personal protection measures both locally and during travel.

As of July 25, CHP noted that the number of cases had increased from 51 to 95 cases in the previous year. All cases recorded in 2019 were imported cases in the sense that they were carried by people who had traveled, mainly from Malaysia 17 people, Thailand 17 people and Indonesia 16 people.

CHP has been closely monitoring the latest DF situation in neighboring areas and overseas. DF is endemic in many tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Detailed information on the latest DF situation in Hong Kong as well as neighboring and overseas countries and regions this year has been uploaded to the CHP website.

According to ovitrap data from the Department of Hygiene and Food, the monthly ovitrap index for Aedes albopictus rose from 11 percent in May to 16 percent in June, indicating that mosquito infestations were slightly more widespread in the areas surveyed. Residents of the community, especially residents in areas with widespread mosquito attacks, are expected to remain vigilant and take effective mosquito prevention and control measures.

“Despite general measures, travelers returning from DF-affected areas must use insect repellent for 14 days after arriving in Hong Kong. If you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately and provide travel details to a doctor,” a CHP spokesperson said.

Meanwhile from July 19 to 25, CHP confirmed one case of chikungunya. The patient had been to Thailand during the incubation period. As of yesterday (25 July), five confirmed CF cases had been recorded this year, all of which were imported cases from Thailand.

CF is a mosquito-borne disease caused by the chikungunya virus. Clinically characterized by fever which is often accompanied by joint pain. Other common signs and symptoms include muscle aches, headaches, nausea, fatigue, and rash. Joint pain is often very debilitating, but usually lasts for a few days or can last for weeks. Most patients make a full recovery, but in some cases joint pain can persist for months, or even years.

Chikungunya virus is transmitted to humans through mosquito bites. Although the Aedes aegypti vector is not found in Hong Kong, another vector, Aedes albopictus, is widely distributed locally. These mosquitoes can be found biting throughout the day, although there may be peak activity in the morning and evening.

The post Chp: 16 Cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever and Chikungunya Hong Kong Imported From Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. first appeared on Postal Migrant.
