Dozens of Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were found among thousands of foreign ISIS fighters at the Al-Hol Refugee Camp, East Syria, some said they wanted to return to Indonesia, Wednesday (27/3/2019).

According to news reported by BBC Indonesia, the majority of Indonesian citizens are children and women. Before arriving in Al-Hol they were in Baghuz, the last ISIS enclave that had been captured by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
One of the Indonesian citizens, Maryam, who claims to be from Bandung, West Java, wants to return to her hometown with her four children.
“I am with four children and a family from Baghuz, we want to return to our home country, to Indonesia,” said Maryam as quoted by BBC Indonesia, Wednesday (27/3/2019).
According to the testimony of Afshin, a freelance writer who interviewed Maryam, the condition of the refugee camp in Al-Hol is very bad.
“The conditions in the camp are very, very bad and concerning. Not enough to accommodate thousands of people, no help. There are those who share food but it is not enough for all,” said Afshin.
Dozens of Indonesian citizens met by Afshin had just left Baghuz. However, Afshin said there were many other refugees who had lived in the camps for years.
Previously, US-backed SDF forces were reported to have detained more than 5,000 Syrian and foreign fighters since last January. They were placed in various prisons, while women and children were placed in refugee camps.’
According to a Kurdish official quoted by the AFP news agency, more than 9,000 ISIS-supporting families from abroad are being housed in the Al-Hol camp. So that the camp with a capacity of about 20,000 people currently has to accommodate more than 70,000 refugees.
The Kurdish official, Abdul Karim Omar, said he was very disappointed with the international community because it felt as if it had been left to deal with ISIS fighters.
Abdul said that his party was unable to accommodate the militias who had been detained.
Abdul admitted that he was very disappointed with the steps taken by a number of countries to revoke the citizenship of their citizens who had/had joined ISIS.
“The Kurds have suffered greatly during their time under ISIS and also against the militant group. Leaving ISIS members in an unstable region under a government that is incapable of dealing with it will create problems,” Abdul said.
BBC Indonesia has tried to contact the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus to ask for steps to deal with Indonesian citizens who join ISIS, but until this news was published, BBC Indonesia had not received an answer.

The post Dozens of Indonesians Found in Syrian Refugee Camps Want to Go Home first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip will commemorate one year of the Great March of Return demonstrations on Saturday (30/3/2019) tomorrow.

Not only in the Gaza Strip, the commemorative action will also be carried out by Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

It is estimated that 10,000 people will attend the commemoration event. The Egyptian-brokered talks took place in the Gaza Strip for several hours.

To avoid violence and casualties, Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, said it had reached an agreement with Israel brokered by Egypt.

“Egypt told us they (Israel) promised to be lenient,” said a Hamas official who asked not to be named, as reported by AFP on Friday (29/3).

Quoted from CNN, Hamas said it asked the protesters to be within a few hundred meters of the border fence. Instead, Israeli officials are expected not to open fire at demonstrations.

There are fears that the warning could turn into riots, given that since the beginning of this week Israel has been bombarding a number of points in the Gaza Strip. They reasoned to reply to the rocket attacks carried out by Hamas. However, Hamas denied they carried out rocket attacks on Israel.

Hamas has promised to temporarily halt attacks in the West Bank. Another agreement is to allow the amount of aid from Qatar to the Gaza Strip more. However, Israel has not responded to this deal.

The Return to Homeland Movement began on March 30, 2018. The action turned from a peaceful demonstration to a violent one.

It is recorded that 258 Palestinians died as a result of being killed by Israeli forces during demonstrations in 2018. Meanwhile, the Israeli side lost two soldiers.

The post Tomorrow Palestinians Commemorate the Return to Homeland Movement first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Scotland, a British state with the capital Edinburgh, has become the first country in the world to provide free and universal access to menstrual products, after a four-year campaign that fundamentally changed public discourse around menstruation, Wednesday (25/11/2020).

The Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act, which passed unanimously through its final tranche on Tuesday night (24/11), will place a legal obligation on local authorities to provide menstrual products to everyone who needs them. To set an early example, people’s councils, such as North Ayrshire, have been providing free tampons and sanitary napkins in public buildings since 2018.

The campaign has been backed by various national grassroots groups spearheaded by Scottish Labor health spokeswoman Monica Lennon, who told the media the decision was a proud day for Scotland.

“This will make a huge difference to the lives of women and girls and everyone who is menstruating. There has been great progress at the community level and through local authorities in giving everyone the opportunity to achieve dignified equality,” Lennon said.

“There has been a major change in the way menstruation is discussed in the public’s life. A few years ago there was never an open discussion about menstruation in the Holyrood room and now it has become mainstream. MSPs enjoy being a part of that, and that includes menopause, endometriosis, as well as the types of products we use and their sustainability,” he added.

According to previous research by the grassroots group Women for Independent, people there are having difficulty getting basic sanitation products for basic needs every month, with numbers increasing during the coronavirus pandemic.

The data revealed that almost one in five women had experienced difficulties accessing menstrual products, which had a significant impact on their hygiene and health, as well as their well-being. The female population is estimated to spend an average of hundreds of thousands in a month, to buy menstrual products which if calculated for a lifetime can cost tens of millions of rupiah.

The scheme, which is estimated to cost around £8.7 million per year, will not be tested, meaning any woman can apply for free access to menstrual products. The Scottish government initially opposed the universal provision, but switched to joining cross-party support at the bill’s first phase debate in February. The SNP has faced growing pressure from its own activists, as well as from the coalition of trade unions and civil society groups that Lennon co-founded.

The law will also set out in legislation a requirement for schools, colleges and universities to provide menstrual products free of charge, which the first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, announced in 2017. This is a world first, while the Scottish government also funded a project in Aberdeen to deliver free menstrual products to low-income households as well as a further £4 million for the council to continue rolling out to other public places.

In the meantime, a number of individual businesses, such as restaurants, pubs, and even football clubs, have started to independently provide free menstrual products. It is becoming increasingly common in Scotland, to enter the women’s restroom and find free menstrual products near the sink, or with an honesty box.

Lennon said campaigners around the world were watching progress in Scotland very closely. “This is an important message in the midst of a global pandemic that we can still put the rights of women and girls at the top of the political agenda.”

The post Scotland Becomes First Country to Provide Free Menstrual Products to All Its Residents first appeared on Postal Migrant.

A cybersecurity expert said people should avoid sending sensitive or important personal data via WhatsApp, and suggested using more than one messaging app instead of sticking to just one.

According to The Standard, Anthony Lau Cheuk-tung, a computer security researcher, made the comments after WhatsApp recently revised its privacy policy informing that it will now share user information with its parent company, Facebook.

WhatsApp in a message on its application has notified that from February 8th, people who do not agree to its new privacy policy will not be able to use the application. Lai said WhatsApp can now share user status, smartphone details, internet and phone numbers and IP addresses used by an account.

“Any company that gets our data, they use it for themselves as best they can, they sell it or use this information to target you through all kinds of tailor-made ads. However, there are other ways that Facebook can use our data,” Lai explained.

Amid strong protests from users around the world, WhatsApp has issued a clarification ensuring that user data is safe.

“I want to share how committed everyone @WhatsApp is to providing private communication to two billion people around the world. At our core, that’s the ability to message or call loved ones freely, but it’s also protected by end-to-end encryption and that doesn’t change,” said Will Cathcart, Head of WhatsApp at Facebook.

Meanwhile, since the update, many WhatsApp users have persuaded each other to leave the platform and switch to other encrypted messengers such as Signal and Telegram.

Tesla, SpaceX and Boring Company CEO Elon Musk also joined the conversation, asking people to leave WhatsApp with a post on his Twitter, “Use Signal”.

The post Avoid Sending Sensitive Messages Using the Whatsapp Application first appeared on Postal Migrant.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) revealed a number of modes that are often used by syndicates of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) to ensnare their victims. The mode is in the form of the lure of a high salary and a down payment or down payment, Wednesday (7/4/2021).

“The lure of fantastic salaries abroad has become one of the modus operandi of perpetrators to ensnare their victims,” said the Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities (PWNI-BHI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha during a webinar entitled “Trends, Patterns and Mechanisms for Handling TIP ” which was broadcast virtually on Tuesday (6/4/2021).

In addition to the lure of high salaries, the mode that is often used by TIP perpetrators and brokers is to give a down payment or down payment to the victim. At the time of giving the money, usually the victim is still in the village or at his home and has not yet confirmed whether he will go abroad or not.

However, because they were persuaded and the down payment had been given, the victim finally felt bound and would not want to follow what the perpetrators/brokers said.

According to Judha, when he arrives abroad, the victim will not receive or receive anything that has been promised from the beginning by the perpetrator. Meanwhile, at that time the position of the victim was difficult to return to his hometown because he was bound by a down payment. At least the victim will be required to pay a sum of money along with a down payment if they still want to return to their homeland.

With so many cases and modes used by the perpetrators, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes that the public will understand and be more aware of TIP.

The post Ministry of Foreign Affairs: High Salaries and ‘Advances’ Become the Mode of Cases of Trafficking in Persons first appeared on Postal Migrant.

The use of masks during the corona virus pandemic is very important. But what if surgical masks are becoming increasingly scarce and unaffordable? Cloth masks can be the solution.

Even though cloth masks are not ideal or not adequate enough, if they are used with due regard to the 3 important rules, they can be useful in preventing the spread of the virus.

Launching the Live Science page, Tuesday (3/31/2020) a researcher at the University of Cambridge, Anna Davies said the function of cloth masks offers limited protection, but if there are no other options there are 3 important instructions that users must pay attention to.

The use of masks must be appropriate, namely paying attention to both sides of the mask. The outside must remain on the outside, while the inside must remain on the inside. Don’t get confused.

Cloth masks are disposable and should be washed immediately after use. Washing the mask serves to remove the remaining flu particles that stick to the mask.

The way to remove the mask must be considered, namely by holding the rope tied to the head and then pulling it forward. Hands should be tried not to touch the mask. Whether touching or not the user should immediately wash their hands with soap after removing the cloth mask.

Based on the 3 rules above, Anna Davies suggests that the only way to protect yourself is not to leave the house or maintain social distance. But if you have to leave the house, you must wear a mask. If forced to use a cloth mask, like it or not, the rules must be used.

The post 3 Important Rules for Using Cloth Masks first appeared on Postal Migrant.

The Federation of International Council of Nurses (ICN) nurses reported that there were more than a thousand nurses around the world who died from being infected with Covid-19, Friday (9/18/2020).

The federation, which oversees 130 nurse associations around the world, believes that the number of nurse deaths is actually higher than recorded, because there is no complete and systematic global record of statistical data.

According to the ICN report as of August 14, 2020, the death rate for nurses from 44 countries caused by Covid-19 was 1,097 people. Brazil occupies the highest list, there are 351 nurses died, followed by Mexico with 212 nurses died. ICN also noted that from 32 countries there were 572,478 medical personnel who were infected with Covid-19.

ICN President Annette Kennedy said there are still many nurses around the world who may be infected with the corona virus and other diseases related to Covid-19.

“Nurses and other medical personnel are still exposed to Covid-19 and all the associated risks, including violence and prejudice, mental illness, infection, and in what we now believe may be thousands of cases, making the ultimate sacrifice by paying for it with their lives,” Annette said. reported from Cnnindonesia.com, Thursday (17/9/2020).

Annette also stated that nurses are often underestimated and underpaid. He also urged the government to remedy the situation, which he described as a scandal.

The community, which consists of around 20,000 nurses, also criticized the government for not adequately protecting nurses and medical personnel who are at the forefront of dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the human rights organization Amenesty International reported, as of September 3, 2020, around 7,000 medical workers had died worldwide due to Covid-19.

The post ICN Records Thousands of Nurses and Medical Workers Died Due to COVID-19 first appeared on Postal Migrant.

An astronomy group led by the team from the Belgian university KU Leuven, with professor Albert Zijlstra from the Space Research Laboratory of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), has captured the first detailed image of a unique stellar wind surrounding a dying star, Friday (18/9/2020) .

Reporting from the publication of the science journal, the astronomy team said the scenery they found could show a fascinating shape, which solves the mystery of the death of a star like what will happen with the sun, which is predicted to die in the next 7,000 billion years.

When stars in outer space start to run out of nuclear fuel (hydrogen) as a source of combustion, they will swell and cool, turning into red giants. Then they produce a stellar wind, a stream of particles ejected by the star and causing the star to lose mass.

When the sun dies, it will create a stellar wind disaster. Winds will form planetary nebulae and produce shells of gas and dust that are ejected from the star during its evolution. This new discovery could provide clues that the nebula appears to have a certain symmetry but is almost never round.

“This latest image is of sun-like stars reaching the end of their lives. Nine out of 10 stars will form a planetary nebula at that time. Previously the origin of the shape of the planetary nebula was never clear. But our new observations have finally solved this mystery. Now we can even predict the shape of the solar nebula,” explained Albert, quoted from The Standard.

It was believed that the stellar winds were spherical, but the team discovered that they were like planetary nebulae. The team also discovered various forms of stellar winds, including disk shapes containing spirals and cones. These different patterns are caused by low-mass stars or heavy planets around dying stars.

“Just as the spoon you stir in a cup of coffee with milk can create a spiral pattern, its counterpart sucks the material toward it as it revolves around a star,” said Lee Decin of KU Leuven.

According to new calculations by the astronomy team, the weak spiral would have formed due to stellar winds from the dying old sun. Their findings have been published in the leading journal Science, which is a source of reference for both academics and the general public.

The post Astronomy Team Finds Star Wind Cluster first appeared on Postal Migrant.

Hundreds of migrant domestic workers (PRT) from several countries who migrated to Lebanon were abandoned by their employers, amid the economic crisis that has worsened since late 2019. According to the Human Rights Institute, Human Rights Watch (HRW), the Lebanese government has not done much to help Migrant domestic workers hold their employers accountable, or simply protect the basic rights of migrant workers, Wednesday (16/9/2020.)

Reporting from the HRW website, the situation of migrant domestic workers is getting worse and most of them are homeless or homeless, after the explosion at the port that destroyed Beirut. As migrant domestic workers in Lebanon have little or no legal protection, migrant workers have started asking their embassies to facilitate their return home.

Because the cost of air tickets continues to rise sharply, as well as complaints that are not responded to by state officials serving in the embassies, and allegations of physical violence by some embassy officials, many migrant workers are confused. Prior to the Beirut explosion, many migrant domestic workers were displaced and living on the streets or in temporary shelters, they could only rely on local organizations to survive.

According to HRW, after the explosion, many migrant domestic workers lost their passports, money, and other possessions. The explosions have destroyed shared accommodation and temporary shelters for migrant domestic workers. In addition, many reported experiencing discrimination in receiving assistance, including access to adequate shelter.

Migrant workers from Kenya, Gambia and Ethiopia are stepping up their calls for repatriation, which are reinforced by local organizations. They say they were silenced by the Lebanese government and authorities. A local non-governmental organization (NGO) has helped pay for flights home for 38 Gambian migrant workers. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is assisting 13 Nigerian workers who were repatriated between May and August.

On September 4, Lamia Yammine Douaihy, the Lebanese Minister of Manpower, announced a new employment contract regulation for migrant domestic workers. While the announcement is an important step, it does not abolish the draconian kafala (visa sponsorship) system that binds workers’ legal status to their employers, and which has left many migrants stranded in Lebanon in the first place. According to HRW it is still unclear how the new contract will be launched or enforced.

The Minister of Manpower must demonstrate its seriousness about the rights of migrant domestic workers by assisting workers who have been abandoned by their employers. Lebanese authorities must ensure migrant workers have food and shelter, and hold abusive employers to account. In addition, the Lebanese government, country of origin, and international humanitarian agencies must ensure that workers who wish to return home can do so.

The post Migrant Domestic Workers in Lebanon Become Homeless After Their Employers Leave first appeared on Postal Migrant.
