Leli Nurlila, an Indonesian Migrant Domestic Worker (PRT) from Tasikmalaya was successfully repatriated to Indonesia after two years of working in Malaysia without being paid by her employer, Monday (28/9/2020).

Quoted from Kompas, before starting to work at her employer’s house, all identities and communication tools in the form of Leli’s cellphone were detained by agents so that for two years Leli was unable to contact her family.

In her confession, Leli said that the reason she was not allowed to use her cellphone was that her employer was afraid that Leli would run away. As for the unpaid salary, her employer said that she would transfer Leli’s salary after Leli arrived at her hometown.

After the two-year work contract expired, Leli’s cell phone was returned by her employer and the employer asked Leli to work at her home for another six months and said she would process an official permit for Leli.

With her cell phone, Leli was then able to call her family again and Leli also made a video about her wish to return to Indonesia after two years of working in Malaysia as a Migrant Domestic Worker without being paid by her employer. The video was reported to the Indonesian Consulate General in Malaysia.

Based on Leli’s video received by the Indonesian Consulate General, the Indonesian Consulate General together with BP2MI forced Leli to pick up Leli from her employer’s house.

Leli was repatriated back to Indonesia via the West Kalimantan border to be escorted back to her hometown.

While working, Leli was often scolded by her employer until she was told to sleep outside the house for a week due to forgetting to lock the door. Leli also revealed that this was her bitter experience working abroad without being accompanied by official documents while working, just because she was lured by a high salary.

Currently the rights for Leli are being handled by the Indonesian Consulate General in Malaysia.

The post Two Years Without Salary, a Migrant Domestic Worker From Tasikmalaya Successfully Returned first appeared on Postal Migrant.
